ipad app development

These are the start of my development for my Ipad app. I have started to insert content and I am playing around with layout for the Ipad app information. I am using Gills Sans typeface. I think that this is a good typeface for my ipad app because of the slightly sharp look that some of the characters have such as the t cross stroke. It is a well balanced sans serif typeface that is simple and effective. Also, it has many weights. I need a simple sans serif font because I want the images to be the focal point of the ipad app. They will be full bleed and I want the text to be easily readable and simple to understand. I have used Gill Sans in letterpress and I really love the way that it is made. For me, it represents Bath.

For titles I am using a Bold 22 point type here and for the text I am using 16 point. I really like the idea of using the horizontal line where the road meets the top part of the image for placement of titles. Also, white text on these images is definately the right colour scheme. White text on photographs is widely accepted as a aesthetically successful use of type colour. I need to watch where I place the text as it is becoming difficult to read in this image as it bleeds into the strong light on the road.

Here, I have used placement text and experimented with size of text. I prefer the smaller font size, it makes the overall composition look more sophisticated. I need to further consider placement of the text and also how many words of text there are per line. Around 7 words is said to be the optimum number per line for a balanced block of text that is easy on the eye.

I quite like the smaller font here and the larger title. It gives the image an aesemetric balance. I am designing these images to the size of an ipad screen. The text is readable in a 100% scale.

I think that his Ipad app is looking effective, but I have a few issues with the overall concept. The point of view makes Bath look particularly interesting, but it also has dark conetations and undertones. I have actually had to lie on the floor to take these photos, and I am concerned that the images convey that message of lying on the floor passed out. Also, I need to develop the content further before I go out onto my next photo shoot so that I know exactly what I am going for. These images and layout ideas were just tests for the final Ipad app images.
I could look at the mysterious side of Bath, or the underground aspects of Bath. Most of Baths clubs are below street level. Perhaps this is the link between the low level shots and the context?
I have just had an email through with a brief about a new student build at Newton Park. There is a competition for students to design the hoardings that will be erected whilst it is being built. I could apply all of this work that I have done so far to this project so that the outcome has more of a context.
