These photos have been taken in a similar style to the way Lomokev completed his o2 Brighton photography project, it was this project that inspired me to do this. I left the house very early in the morning with my camera and I set myself a task of photographing everything that I found interesting in Bath. I focused on the key features that I have mentioned already such as public transport and food but also I looked at the vibrance of Bath town centre and the fun and creative side to Bath. Ultimately, I wanted to show Bath exactly how it is. Ultimately, I have taken all of these photos to create large photo montages of Bath. I could theme them, for instance one montage of food, one of transport, one of entertainment in Bath, one of nightlife etc.
I got onto my knees to take this photo of the bus as it was coming down the road. The sun went in just at this point so the photo is not very well exposed. I quite like the interesting composition however. I think it needs to be cropped quite heavily so that only the bus front is shown.
Rather Lomokev inspired, this image of the sky was taken to convey a sense of happiness and brightness. Im not really sure how it could be used. Perhaps it would make a nice image to break the rythm of a montage.
The above three images I am trying to capture purchasing of food in Bath. A lot of the shops are artizan shops where handmade produce is the focus. The artizan style shopping is one of the things that makes Bath so special so this is why I have chosen to capture it. I went into many shops on this day and asked if I could take photos on their premesis. The issue that I have here is that there is no consistancy in hues or the way that the photos are taken. Perhaps they should be taken with a cross process film? Or perhaps I should edit the photos in a high contrast style.
This lady doesnt really have anything to do with my project specifically but I have captured her because she started speaking to me when I was taking photos. She told me extensively about Bath and how much it has changed and how she hates the way that it is loosing its beauty and heritage. She disliked the new builds saying that they are ugly and unsightly and do not fit in with the historic architecture of Bath. I though it was fitting to take a portrait of her against a steel shop front. I wont be using the photo in the montages as I do not think that it would entice students to choose bath spa uni but it will definately be a photo that I archive.
I thought that this was a very interesting shooting angle. It was taken in a fruit and veg store. I like the colours and the bukah in the background. Also, the seeds are a reference to the natural beauty of Bath.
In the style of Lomokev's Brighton photo montages, I produced this photo montage of the Bath Abbey. I think it is quite an impressive and visually interesting image. I like the differing hues in the images the construct the abbey. It makes the image more visaully dynamic. However, it is too easy to do this. I have simply copied the style of Lomo kev's work. I do want to take inspiration from this however. I like constructing one image from various sections of the same image. This is a technique that I want to explore in depth.
This is another attempt at a photo montage. Again, I think it is a very interesting way of producing imagery, but I need to come up with a fresh and imaginative way of working rather than copying an existing style.
This was a barbers that I use in Bath and that I would recommend. Instead of taking photos of the norm, that is people having their hair cut etc, I decided to focus upon really interesting features. I thought the two simple chairs against the heavily patterned wall was particularly interesting. I was pushed to come up with imaginative ways of working here because the hairdressers wasnt actually that amazing or nice to look at inside, but the manager wanted to see my photos after taking them before I could take them away and use them. The above image is rather like a photo that you would see on Things Organized Neatly on tumblr. I layed out all of the hair clippers and scissors carefully to construct this image.
Flowers and nature are a very important feature in Bath. Although I am advertising Bath Spa to students I think that you cannot escape the fact that Bath is such a scenic, natural place to live. Newton Park where the new student build will be situated is in beautiful countryside that Bath Spa are very proud off. Therefore, it should be highlighted and reflected in my work.
After completing this photo shoot day I have decided that although I am happy with the outcome of the photos and the way they are constructed and I think they would make interesting collages I do not think that it is suitable for the hoardings at Newton Park. They are just photos of Bath which anybody could take and see. If I was to do this then I would get students at Newton Park to take disposable cameras with them everywhere they go for a week and document the best bits about being a student through photography. However, I cannot do this and I think that these photos I have taken are just not interesting enough .They do not show Bath in an interesting light, they are too touristy. I need to rethink how I am going to approach this project.
